The Power of Salt

Salt has a multitude of uses and I bet you didn't know some of the most important.

The most important of salt's many uses were industrial such as manufacturing steel, aluminum, rubber tires, soap and ceramics.

  • Salt was used as a preservative.
Salt is even used in a few craft projects such as homemade modeling dough and crystal gardens.

Salt is even mentioned in the bible several times;

Leviticus 2:13
'Every grain offering of yours, moreover, you shall season with salt, so that the salt of the covenant of your God shall not be lacking from your grain offering; with all your offerings you shall offer salt.

2 Chronicles 13:5
Ought ye not to know that Jehovah, the God of Israel, gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?

As one of the most essential articles of diet, salt symbolized hospitality; as an antiseptic, durability, fidelity and purity. Hence the expression "covenant of salt," (Leviticus 2:13; Numbers 18:19; 2 Chronicles 13:5) as betokening an indissoluble alliance between friends; and again the expression "salted with the salt of the palace."
